Entry #1:  AT&T DSL

I signed up for DSL internet with AT&T.  This service is snail slow at 1.5gbits per second.  If you don't know what that means, I'll tell you.  For today's standards it's SLOW.  They send their own modem that costs a whopping $100. I told them that I had a modem I could use but they said it was standard to send a modem and I could send it back and not be charged.  So I hooked up the new one to make sure service was good.  It works.
But I tried hooking up the 2wire as opposed to the Motorola that they sent me and what do you know... it doesn't work.  I called customer support and the story, at least from one customer rep, is that the GUID is registered one time when connection is established.  Well if I knew that I wouldn't have connected that modem!  fools.  I think this GUID thing is BS.  Nonetheless -
Now I have to get a service tech out here to do some system flush and register the new GUID.  It could cost me $55 as opposed to $100 for the service call fee, but I MIGHT be able to get away with paying nothing for the service call.  That's my goal, but either way, I save at least $45 dollars in the process.
I know for a fact there is a way around this but I haven't found it online.  If you have any idea how to reconfigure it for use, I am all ears.
